About Me
Gabe Oland, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Mount Sinai Health System. He works in the Garlock Division of General Surgery and specializes in minimally invasive surgeries, using small incisions for weight loss, acid reflux, and hernia repair. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Oland is also the Co-Director of our center for Surgical Innovation and Artificial Intelligence and holds a joint faculty appointment in the Windreich Department of Artificial Intelligence and Human Health.
Dr. Oland has always applied his passion for engineering to improve his surgical patient care. He has published research in areas including medical imaging, virtual surgery software, and COVID-19 testing. He is currently the Director of Surgical Innovation and Artificial Intelligence for the Department of Surgery at Mount Sinai, where he is studying and applying how to use computer vision (a type of artificial intelligence that interprets image and video data) to augment surgeons’ abilities in the operating room.
