Garfield A Clunie, MD

Garfield Clunie, MD, is an experienced maternal-fetal medicine subspecialist, providing expert obstetric care for women at high risk for complications during pregnancy, labor and delivery. He is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology, and in the maternal-fetal medicine subspecialty. His research interests include prenatal diagnosis by sonography and genetic analysis, the relation of uterine anomalies and pregnancy outcome, and fetal intervention.

Dr. Clunie received his Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. He then completed the post-baccalaureate program at Wake Forest University, where he remained, completing a National Institutes of Health Summer Research Fellowship, and earning his medical degree. He performed his obstetrics and gynecology residency training at New York University Downtown Hospital, graduating in 2000, and completed training in maternal-fetal medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine in 2003. While there, he received the Tufts School of Medicine Excellence in Teaching Award in both 2002 and 2003.

Dr. Clunie has been an assistant professor of obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive science at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai since 2006, at which time he also became an attending physician in the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the Mount Sinai Hospital. From 2012-2016, he was Director of Ambulatory MFM Services at the hospital, and from 2015 through 2017, Director of Maternal-Fetal Medicine Services for Mount Sinai Doctors-Brooklyn Heights. In 2017, he received the National Medical Association Physician of the Year Award.

Dr. Clunie is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Chair of the Board of Trustees of the National Medical Association, a Physician Life Member of the Student National Medical Association, and a member of the Society of Maternal-Fetal Medicine and the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine.
