Gary W Swain, MD
Gary W. Swain, MD, is a board certified general surgeon and an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. After graduating from Johns Hopkins University with Honors, he obtained his medical degree from Harvard Medical School where he received numerous awards including the prestigious Presidential Scholars Award and the Harvard Medical School Community Service Award for outstanding leadership in community outreach. He then completed a general surgery residency at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, during which time he also obtained an MBA from Yale University School of Management.
Dr. Swain's clinical focus is in general surgery and he is skilled in both conventional open and minimally invasive surgery, including laparoscopic and robotic surgery. Additionally, he is passionate about improving health care systems which would allow greater access to high-quality surgical care to diverse and underserved communities. In addition to his clinical interests, Dr. Swain’s research interests include health care operations decision-analytic modeling, simulation, cost effectiveness, and resource allocation. He looks forward to continuing to care for patients from diverse cultures and backgrounds. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
