About Me

George W. Niedt, MD is Co-Director Dermatopathology Services, Associate Director of the Dermatopathology Fellowship Program and Professor (pending) of Dermatology. After graduating Phi Beta Kappa from Dartmouth College in 1978, Dr. Niedt attended medical school at John Hopkins Medical Institution, and graduated in 1982. He completed an anatomic pathology residency in the Department of Pathology at NYU-Bellevue Medical Center in 1985. Immediately following that residency, Dr. Niedt began his dermatopathology residency in the Department of Dermatology at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center.

After completing his dermatopathology residency in 1987, Dr. Niedt remained at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center as an Assistant Professor of Pathology. In 1989, Dr. Niedt joined the Albert Einstein College of Medicine as an Assistant Professor of Pathology, and in 1991, was promoted to an Assistant Clinical Professor of Dermatology. Eleven years later, in 2002, he joined the Columbia University Department of Dermatology as an Assistant Professor of Pathology, and in 2015 became an Associate Professor of Pathology in Dermatology, where he remained until joining Mount Sinai in 2021.

Over the course of his prolific career, Dr. Niedt has cultivated an extensive research and scholarship profile. He has co-authored forty-five publications, appearing as first author on five, all of which have been accepted in highly respected journals, such as the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, the Archives of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Modern Pathology, Diagnostic Molecular Pathology, and the American Journal of Dermatopathology. In addition, Dr. Niedt has co-authored two book chapters, which discuss Kaposi’s sarcoma and Paget’s disease.
