Girish N Nadkarni, MD

Dr. Girish N. Nadkarni is a physician-scientist and clinical informaticist whose career is marked by leadership in artificial intelligence (AI), data science, and precision medicine. He is currently System Chair of the Windreich Department of Artificial Intelligence and Human Health at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and the inaugural Chief AI Officer of the Mount Sinai Health System. He is also the Barbara T. Murphy Professor of Artificial Intelligence, the Irene and Dr. Arthur Fishberg Professor of Medicine, and Director of the Hasso Plattner Institute for Digital Health at Mount Sinai. 

Dr. Nadkarni has spearheaded transformative and translational research applying AI and data science to multimodal clinical, genomic, biomarker, and waveform data to improve disease detection, prediction, and care. He has authored more than 480 peer-reviewed original research contributions, with more than 63,000 citations and an h-index of 114. His research portfolio includes 13 active federally funded awards, and he has been an inventor or co-inventor on numerous patents spanning AI-enabled diagnostics, ECG and sleep-data foundation models, kidney disease prediction, neurological monitoring, and clinical decision support. 

His work has advanced precision cardiovascular and kidney care, including the use of electrocardiogram waveforms and AI to assess cardiac function, the integration of biomarkers and clinical data to predict kidney outcomes, research on APOL1 genetic risk for kidney disease, and approaches to identify and address bias across the AI ecosystem.
