Dr. Gopal Narayanswami joined Mount Sinai St. Luke’s and Mount Sinai West in 2002. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at Jamaica Hospital, Queens & Pulmonary and Critical Care fellowship at the Beth Israel Medical Center in Manhattan. He went to medical school at BJ Medical College, Ahmedabad, India where he also did three years of residency in Internal Medicine and one year in Oncology. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Diseases and Critical Care Medicine.
Dr. Narayanswami is actively involved with the Internal Medicine residency program and is the physician co-leader in the weekly Department of Medicine Mortality & Morbidity conferences and Autopsy Conferences. He is the Director of the Ultrasound program and has implemented goal-directed sonography in the management of critically ill patients and provides faculty development in goal-directed ultrasound and conducts on-site ultrasound courses for faculty and fellows in critical care. Along with thoracic surgery, he has established the Endobronchial ultrasound program for sampling of mediastinal lymph nodes.
Dr. Narayanswami’s main interests include teaching of residents and fellows in the art of clinical medicine with an emphasis on history and physical exam to enhance clinical skills and assist them in clinical decision making and evidence-based management.
