About Me
Hani Sbitany, MD, FACS, is an Associate Professor of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He is formerly of the University of California San Francisco where he was an Associate Professor of Surgery for eight years.
Dr. Sbitany received his medical degree from Columbia University in 2005. He went on to complete residencies in general surgery and plastic surgery at the University of Rochester-Strong Memorial Hospital, followed by a fellowship in reconstructive microsurgery at the University of Pennsylvania in 2011.
Dr. Sbitany specializes in cosmetic and reconstructive breast surgery, particularly in post-mastectomy breast reconstruction which incorporates microsurgical free tissue transfers, implant-based techniques, and fat grafting. Being trained in reconstructive microsurgery, he has expertise in the most advanced procedures to restore form and function after breast cancer surgery. Dr. Sbitany is internationally recognized for helping to define new, less-invasive procedures for post-mastectomy breast reconstruction (prepectoral breast reconstruction).
In addition to his work in breast reconstruction, he performs surgical reconstruction for defects of the head and neck, torso, arms, and legs. Other areas of expertise include reconstruction after skin cancer removal, and general plastic and reconstructive surgery, in which he specializes in the surgical rejuvenation of the face and body.
Dr. Sbitany has authored numerous publications and book chapters and is an Associate Editor of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Journal and the Breast Surgery Section of Annals of Plastic Surgery Journal. He has also speaks routinely at meetings and symposia in his field.
