About Me
Dr. Harshit Sharma is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, where he serves as the Medical Director of the Center for Intensive Treatment of Personality Disorders (CITPD). In this leadership role, he provides specialized care to individuals with complex personality disorders, supervises psychiatry residents, and works collaboratively with psychologists and interdisciplinary teams to deliver intensive, evidence-based treatment.
Dr. Sharma completed his medical education in India before moving to New York City, where he trained in general psychiatry at Mount Sinai Morningside and West, serving as Chief Resident. He went on to complete a fellowship in forensic psychiatry at the Yale School of Medicine, where he developed expertise at the intersection of psychiatry and the legal system. During his fellowship, he conducted forensic evaluations for courts and legal teams, received advanced training in report writing and expert testimony, and treated individuals involved in the criminal justice system.
He has served as an expert witness in both civil and criminal cases, testifying on issues including competency to stand trial, violence risk assessment, and criminal responsibility. His academic interests include personality disorders, forensic psychiatry, psychodynamic psychotherapy, sleep disorders, and ethical and legal issues in psychiatry. Dr. Sharma is actively involved in medical education and regularly teaches and supervises medical students and residents on topics such as the insanity defense, violence risk assessment, and the treatment of personality disorders.
