About Me

Heresh Amini, PhD, MSc, is Associate Professor in the Department of Environmental Medicine and Public Health at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. As a member of the Institute for Exposomic Research, Dr. Amini brings global perspectives to Mount Sinai’s exposomic and environmental health research program, with expertise in external environment exposure modeling and environmental epidemiology.

His particular area of interest is focused on advancing exposure modeling techniques and the understanding of the health effects of environmental exposures, particularly for environmental justice communities, through monitoring, satellite observations, and the development of advanced computational models. Dr. Amini has expertise in spatial data science and planetary-scale geographical information systems analysis. His recent analysis using machine learning examined historical fine particulate matter composition estimates across the United States, contributing to studies on air pollution and health outcomes.

He has served as Principal Investigator on several research grants, including a Boston-based Health Effects Institute New Investigator Award to study ultrafine particles and health in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Dr. Amini completed a postdoctoral research fellowship in environmental epidemiology at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. He holds a PhD in Epidemiology from the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute at the University of Basel, and an MSc in Environmental Health Engineering from Tehran University of Medical Sciences.
