Helena Schotland, MD

Helena M. Schotland, MD, is Professor of Medicine and Associate Division Chief for Clinical Affairs in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She also serves as Director of Pulmonary Physiology for the Mount Sinai Health System. Dr. Schotland joined Mount Sinai in 2021 after serving on the faculty at the University of Michigan.

As Director of Pulmonary Physiology, Dr. Schotland oversees pulmonary function and cardiopulmonary exercise testing across the Mount Sinai Health System, leading initiatives to expand advanced physiologic testing and improve quality. She also plays an active role in pulmonary and sleep medicine education.

Dr. Schotland graduated from Swarthmore College, earned her medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, completed her residency in internal medicine at New York University, where she served as Chief Resident, and completed fellowship training in pulmonary diseases at the University of Pennsylvania. She previously held faculty appointments at the University of Pennsylvania, Washington University in St. Louis, and the University of Michigan. Dr. Schotland has published extensively on sleep-disordered breathing and pulmonary physiology. She is a Fellow of the American Thoracic Society and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and has held numerous national leadership roles within both organizations.
