Ian Barnes, DO
Family Medicine
About Me
Dr. Ian Barnes joined Mount Sinai in 2026 as a family medicine physician. After completing his undergraduate studies at the University of Illinois, Dr. Barnes earned his medical degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. He then completed his residency in Family Medicine at the Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine. He is board certified in Family Medicine by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians.
When describing his clinical interests, Dr. Barnes explains, "As a family medicine physician, I find it very fulfilling to be the first point of contact for a diverse population presenting with equally myriad concerns and disease processes. My current role with Mount Sinai focuses on serving a socioeconomically diverse population, especially catering to the LGBTQ community and those from underserved backgrounds. Approaching patients with cultural sensitivity and ensuring they are in an environment in which they feel listened to is of utmost importance to me. "
Outside of his time with patients, Dr. Barnes is involved in a semi-professional choir singing in New York City. He also enjoys traveling, piano playing, and Spanish literature.
Dr. Barnes is bilingual and can communicate with patients in both English and Spanish.

Industry Relationships
Physicians and scientists on the faculty of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai often interact with pharmaceutical, device, biotechnology companies, and other outside entities to improve patient care, develop new therapies and achieve scientific breakthroughs. In order to promote an ethical and transparent environment for conducting research, providing clinical care and teaching, Mount Sinai requires that salaried faculty inform the School of their outside financial relationships.
Dr. BARNES has not yet completed reporting of industry relationships or has no industry relationships to report.
Mount Sinai’s faculty policies relating to faculty collaboration with industry are posted on our website. Patients may wish to ask their physician about the activities they perform for companies.
