About Me

Dr. Ibrahim Elsharkawi joined the Division of Medical Genetics and Genomic Sciences in August 2023. He is passionate about providing holistic care and caring for patients and families touched by mitochondrial disease, other inborn errors of metabolism (lysosomal storage disease, amino acidopathies, glycogen storage disease), and patients with Down syndrome.

Dr. Elsharkawi attended undergraduate and medical school at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland-Bahrain, followed by a research fellowship in clinical genetics at Massachusetts General Hospital (2015-2017). He completed a combined residency in pediatrics and medical genetics at Washington University in St. Louis (2021), a fellowship in Mitochondrial Medicine at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (2022), and a fellowship in Medical Biochemical Genetics/Metabolism fellowship at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Elsharkawi holds board certifications with the American Board of Pediatrics and the American Board of Clinical Genetics and Genomics.
