About Me
Ippolito Modica MD has been in the field of Surgical Pathology abroad and in the USA for over 20 years. He successfully completed his medical school studies at the University of Genova Italy in 1995. He then joined the Anatomic Pathology Residency Program at the same University, where he was first amongst three of his graduating class to enter the training program (1996). He eventually made his way back to the US where he completed a Residency Program in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at St. Vincent’s Medical Center (2004), affiliated with New York Medical College. Dr. Modica further enhanced his knowledge and skills in Pathology, completing Fellowships in General Oncologic and Gynecologic Pathology (2005 and 2006), and a Postdoctoral Research Scientist position in Gastrointestinal Pathology (2007), all at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC). He joined Mount Sinai Health System as an Attending in 2008.
Dr. Modica has assumed several leadership administrative and academic positions in the Hospital and the Department throughout the years. He is an Associate Professor at the Icahn School of Medicine, in addition to have been Site Director of Anatomic Pathology at Mount Sinai West. Dr. Modica is a senior voting member of the Executive Medical Board of Mount Sinai West and Morningside, and of the Credentialing Committee of the Mount Sinai Health System that oversees all new hires throughout the system. He is a senior Pathology member of the of the Mount Sinai Hospital Faculty Council.
Dr. Modica participates in the clinical daily sign-out of cases in Gynecologic Pathology, Oncologic Surgical Pathology, General Surgical Pathology, Intra-Operative diagnosis Pathology and Autopsy Pathology. He is an Associate Director of the Gynecologic Pathology Fellowship Program at Mount Sinai Hospital and Senior Faculty member of the Gynecologic Pathology Subspecialty group, and part of the Gynecologic Oncologic Treatment Planning Group.
Dr. Modica is specialized in Gynecologic Pathology, Oncologic Pathology and General Surgical Pathology. He has won a few Teaching Awards in the Mount Sinai Pathology Residency Program. He has published peer reviewed papers in the fields of Oncologic Surgical, Gynecologic and Head and Neck Pathology.
Dr. Modica's signout of cases encompases various sites to include Mount Sinai Hospital, Mount Sinai West and Morningside, and Mount Sinai Downtown locations, including Chelsea Cancer Center and Phyllips Ambulatory Center.
