Jacob M. Appel MD JD MPH is Director of Ethics Education in Psychiatry and Assistant Director of the Academy for Medicine & the Humanities at the Icahn School of Medicine, and an emergency room psychiatrist in the Mount Sinai Health System. He is the author of nineteen books of fiction, nonfiction and poetry, including a compendium of ethical conundrums drawn from medicine and healthcare (Who Says You're Dead?) Physicians and scientists on the faculty of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai often interact with pharmaceutical, device, biotechnology companies, and other outside entities to improve patient care, develop new therapies and achieve scientific breakthroughs.
