About Me
Jan Fune, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He completed his pediatric residency at Jersey Shore University Medical Center and his pediatric hospital medicine fellowship at Michigan State University/Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital. At Mount Sinai, Dr. Fune is an attending physician in the Pediatric Hospital Medicine Program of the Division of General Pediatrics. He is driven by a commitment to clinical excellence, quality improvement, and medical education. His efforts focus on delivering compassionate, high-value care and mentoring the next generation of pediatricians.
At Mount Sinai Kravis Children’s Hospital, he co-led the implementation of the Pediatric Early Warning Signs (PEWS) system, enhancing interdisciplinary communication and early recognition of clinical deterioration. His scholarly work includes Lost in Translation, an OSCE-based interpreter workshop published in MedEdPORTAL.
Dr. Fune serves as Co-Director of the Pediatric Residency Simulation and Quality Improvement curricula, Director of the Pediatric Acting Internship, and a Pediatric Specialty Advisor for medical students. Dr. Fune received the Attending of the Year award in 2021, 2023, and 2025. This trainee-selected distinction is offered to one attending physician at Kravis Children's Hospital each year. He was also recognized as a Fellow Educator by the Institute for Medical Education.
