About Me

Jarvier Mohammed is a current Ph.D. candidate in the Cancer Biology multidisciplinary training area at the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Jarvier is a member of the Chipuk Laboratory in the Department of Oncological Sciences within the Tisch Cancer Institute where his research focuses on elucidating novel lipid- and pharmacologically-mediated mechanisms regulating activation of the pro-apoptotic protein, BAX. Collectively, his work aims to provide insights into the cooperation of the BCL-2 family, mitochondria, and sphingolipids in the context of cancer, and reveal novel pharmacological interventions for cancer treatment.

Jarvier is an international student from Trinidad and Tobago. He graduated from New York Institute of Technology in 2015 with a Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical Engineering. He then worked as a laboratory technician at NYIT while volunteering at ISMMS in the Radu Lab where his research focused on the evaluation of Follicle Stimulating Hormone Receptor (FSHR) as a marker of tumor vasculature. Jarvier then transitioned to a Research Assistant position in the Chipuk Lab where his research efforts were focused on investigating the role mitochondrial biology in cell death and disease.
