About Me

 

Jaskiran Ghuman, DO, is a native New Yorker turned Physiatrist with clinical, academic, and research experience. She obtained her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from New York Institute of Technology – College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2016. She then went on to complete her residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, NY in 2020 and served as the Chief Resident in her final year. She is fellowship trained in Brain Injury Medicine which she completed in June 2021 at the University of Texas McGovern Medical School in Houston affiliated with TIRR (The Institute for Rehabilitation and Research) – Memorial Hermann Hospital System. Dr. Ghuman is trained in management of moderate and severe traumatic brain injury, disorders of consciousness, and spasticity. Her skills include botulinum toxin injections for spasticity with ultrasound/electric stimulation/electromyographic guidance, and phenol injections. She is well versed in general rehabilitation and comfortably manages musculoskeletal conditions and offers ultrasound guided joint injections. Additionally, she is trained in medical acupuncture and prides her multifaceted approach centered around holistic medicine and wellness. She has received the Compassionate Clinical Award for her clinical work at Nassau University Medical Center.


Dr. Ghuman has presented numerous case studies and abstracts for notable medical cases at multiple national conferences. She was also a Contributing Editor for “Rehab in Review,” a nationally circulated review journal. Most recently she has contributed to Principles of Rehabilitation Medicine: Case-Based Board Review textbook which is in press and working on another textbook chapter. She is currently a co-investigator on an IRB approved clinical research study evaluating sarcopenia after neurological impairment at the University of Texas in Houston. She has taken many opportunities to participate in academic lectures in both Texas and New York. She has been a speaker for departmental level journal reviews and residency level didactics. Dr. Ghuman has strong research and clinical interests in traumatic and nontraumatic brain injury, stroke, spasticity, botulinum toxins, and acupuncture.

In her spare time, Dr. Ghuman enjoys volunteering as a mentor for underprivileged high school students. She helps champion and empower high school girls of immigrant backgrounds for economic and career prosperity. Her hobbies include sewing, non-fiction reading, cooking traditional Indian food, and fitness/lifting.
