About Me

Dr. Silbiger joined the faculty of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai after completing his fellowship training at Mount Sinai-Beth Israel Hospital. He is board certified in internal medicine, cardiology and adult echocardiography. Dr. Silbiger is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the American Society of Echocardiography. He is presently professor of medicine and serves as director of the echocardiography laboratory at Elmhurst Hospital Center, a major teaching campus for the Mount Sinai Clinical Cardiology Fellowship Program. His research interests include the structural mechanics of functional mitral regurgitation and coronary artery disease in high risk immigrant populations.

Research

My research focuses on the role anatomic perturbations of the mitral annulus play in the pathogenesis of functional mitral regurgitation. This work, which entails gross dissection and histological examination of human and bovine hearts, has led to a number of novel insights. These include the anatomic basis of pre-systolic contraction of the mitral annulus and the mechanistic role of atriogenic leaflet tethering in atrial functional mitral regurgitation.
