About Me

Jennifer Bragg, MD is an Associate Professor in the Jack and Lucy Clark Department of Pediatrics at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She is an attending neonatologist and the Medical Director of the Mount Sinai West NICU and the Director of the Mount Sinai NICU Follow-Up Clinic at the Mount Sinai Kravis Children's Hospital.  She also works closely with the Mount Sinai Kravis Children's Heart Center team and is a part of the Cardiac Neurodevelopmental Program. Her focus on improving neurodevelopmental outcomes in preterm infants starts in the NICU with attention to family-centered care practices and facilitation of parent-child bonding from an early age.  Through long-term follow-up, she aims to partner with families and the multidisciplinary developmental care team to provide complete diagnostic information for individually-tailored care plans as needed through early childhood.  In addiiton, she has an interest in Whole Genome Sequencing and is affiliated with the Mindich Child Health and Development Institute (MCHDI).

Research

Dr. Bragg’s research interests include optimizing neonatal outcomes through NICU follow-up and early intervention.  In addition, she is interested in the effects of exposure to plasticizers on neonatal outcomes, improving family centered care, and evaluating other predictors of neurodevelopmental outcomes in NICU graduates.

Infant massage in the NICU

Description:  In this project, we implemented an infant massage program in the NICU which involved training staff to be educators of infant massage and then demonstrating proper technique to NICU families.  Family satisfaction and readiness for discharge were assessed and improved with the introduction of this program.

Hospital-based phthalate exposure in very low birth weight neonates
Description: In this project we are investigating the relationship between phthalate and BPA exposure in the neonatal intensive care unit among very low birth weight infants and clinical outcomes including neurodevelopmental progress, somatic growth, and thyroid function.
