About Me

I am a surgeon who has cared for patients with cancer and benign tumors for over a decade. I specialize in breast and endocrine surgical oncology. Following medical school and surgical training at NYU Medical Center, I completed advanced surgical fellowships at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Yale.

My practice focuses on the personalized treatment of patients who have been diagnosed with benign and malignant conditions of the breast. These include benign breast masses, abnormal breast biopsies (e.g. atypia, ADH, LCIS), patients who have an elevated risk of developing breast cancer (e.g. BRCA genetic mutation carriers), ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), and invasive (ductal and lobular) breast cancer.

I have expertise in the full range of breast surgical oncologic procedures including hidden-scar lumpectomy and nipple-sparing mastectomy. I offer patients with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) the option of new approaches using active surveillance and hormone therapy (via the  RECAST DCIS trial (https://www.quantumleaphealth.org/for-investigators/recast-dcis/), which can avoid unnecessary surgery.

At The Mount Sinai Hospital and The Tisch Cancer Institute, I am so proud of our multi-disciplinary teams that provide the most advanced options available to patients in the New York area. My team's goal is to provide every patient with the broadest set of choices, because there are often several "right answers" for the treatment of these conditions. As a surgeon, my role is to help my patients navigate this process and make the most informed decisions. I am passionate about shared decision-making, the practice by which we work together to develop a personalized treatment plan. I see patients at Mount Sinai Union Square and Chelsea.

Research

I am a dual fellowship-trained surgeon specializing in the care of patients with breast cancer and breast diseases, a member of the multi-disciplinary Mount Sinai Hospital Breast Center of the Tisch Cancer Institute. Over the past decade, my academic research has focused on personalizing care for patients with breast cancer and benign breast disease, and studying approaches to improve the shared decision-making process for patients with cancer. As part of these efforts, I was the Cornell site PI for cooperative group studies including the Alliance-supported COMET (Comparison of Operative to Monitoring and Endocrine Therapy) and A011202 phase III trials. My research group has contributed novel insights into personalized management of high-risk lesions of the breast (Kraft et al, Annals of Surgical Oncology 2021; Limberg et al, Annals of Surgical Oncology 2021), and evaluated trends in screening and diagnosis of cancer (Koh et al, JAMA Internal Medicine 2022; Powers et al, JAMA 2019).
