About Me
Jennifer S. Love, MD, MSCR, Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine, is a physician-scientist focused on the care of emergency department patients with substance use disorders.
As part of her work with the Mount Sinai Center for Research on Emerging Substances, Poisoning, Overdose, and New Discoveries (RESPOND Center), Dr. Love explores novel adulterants in the opioid supply, especially xylazine, and the emergency care of patients exposed to xylazine.
Dr. Love is dedicated also to education about, advocacy for, and research on gender equity in emergency medicine. In February 2024, Dr. Love was elected as the Vice-President of Education for the 2024-2025 Academy for Women in Academic Emergency Medicine (AWAEM) Executive Committee. In this role she will lead AWAEM’s educational efforts through annual didactic sessions, workshops, and webinars. Dr. Love leads the EM Women efforts within the Emergency Medicine Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion department portfolio. Through hosting yearly workshops, Dr. Love aims to bring women employees together from across the Mount Sinai Health System to explore challenges, collaborate and develop solutions to address gender disparities.
In regards to her research on gender equity, Dr. Love has published an analysis of gender disparities in authorship in medical toxicology journals, finding that female first authorship has increased over the last decade while female senior authorship has remained relatively stagnant. Her future work in this area will evaluate gender disparities in medical toxicology national leadership positions over time.
Dr. Love received her medical degree from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and completed residency in Emergency Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania where she also served as chief resident. Dr. Love completed a Medical Toxicology fellowship at Oregon Health & Science University, and then a T32 Research fellowship at Mount Sinai. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her daughter and husband, cooking and dancing ballet.
