Jenny Zhang, MD

Dr. Zhang has participated extensively in research spanning from basic science to clinical outcomes. These experiences have sharpened her critical thinking and analytical skills and have contributed to publications in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals such as Nature and Cell. During residency and fellowship, Dr. Zhang’s research encompassed a broad range of topics, including predictors of difficult cholecystectomy, hepatobiliary diseases such as Mirizzi syndrome, and minimally invasive procedures like robotic hernia repair and bariatric surgery outcomes.

As an attending, she plans to focus her research on enhancing patient care in bariatric surgery. Her interests are focused on identifying factors that influence long-term weight loss and developing strategies to optimize clinical outcomes. She is also passionate about studying access to healthcare to better understand and address disparities in the delivery of general and bariatric surgical care. Additionally, Dr. Zhang has a strong interest in quality improvement initiatives. During her chief year of residency, she collaborated with the Vice President of Quality and Improvement to develop and implement strategies aimed at improving the efficiency and effectiveness of patient care.

Clinically, her practice will center on general surgical conditions, including gallbladder disease, hernia pathology, and foregut disorders, as well as bariatric procedures such as sleeve gastrectomy and gastric bypass. She will employ minimally invasive techniques, such as robotic and laparoscopic surgery. Dr. Zhang is committed to providing high-quality, patient-centered, evidence-based care.
