About Me
Jerrel Catlett is a 6th year student in the MSTP from Washington D.C. He completed his undergraduate degree in Human Genetics at Dartmouth College in 2018, and matriculated into Mount Sinai’s MD Program in 2020 after spending two years as a research technician at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute studying epigenetic drivers of therapeutic resistance in Ewing sarcoma. He transferred into the MSTP in Spring 2021, and completed his dissertation work in the Disease Mechanisms and Therapeutics training area under medicinal chemist Dr. Jian Jin, PhD.
Jerrel is an aspiring pediatric oncologist and is passionate about the early discovery of small molecule protein degraders as next-generation cancer therapeutics. Jerrel has been recognized as one of fifteen nationwide Scholars of Oncology by Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine, a Minority Scholar in Cancer Research by the American Association of Cancer Research, and received the Graduate Student Excellence in Teaching Award from the Icahn School of Medicine. He is also a three-time recipient of the Catalyst Student Fellowship at Mount Sinai, where he has undertaken several projects with faculty to improve antiracist curricular content and holistic admissions practices within the medical school. Jerrel is also a member of the Sinai Culinary Club and has served as an admissions interviewer for the MSTP.
Outside of school, Jerrel enjoys baking sourdough bread, marathon training, and volunteering to promote food justice in New York City.
