Jerrel Lewis Catlett
About Me
Jerrel Catlett is a 5th year student in the MSTP from Washington D.C. He is completing his dissertation work in the Disease Mechanisms and Therapeutics training area under medicinal chemist Dr. Jian Jin, PhD. Jerrel completed his undergraduate degree in Human Genetics at Dartmouth College in 2018. He matriculated into Mount Sinai’s MD Program in 2020 after spending two years as a research technician at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute studying epigenetic drivers of therapeutic resistance in Ewing sarcoma. He transferred into the MSTP in Spring 2021.
Jerrel is an aspiring pediatric oncologist and is passionate about the early discovery of small molecule protein degraders as next-generation cancer therapeutics. Earlier this year, Jerrel was recognized as one of fifteen nationwide Scholars of Oncology by Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine. He is also a three-time recipient of the Antiracism Student Fellowship at Mount Sinai, where he has undertaken several projects with faculty to improve antiracist curricular content and admissions practices within the medical school. Jerrel is also a member of the Sinai Culinary Club and has served as an admissions interviewer for the MSTP.
Outside of school, Jerrel enjoys baking sourdough bread, marathon training, and volunteering to promote food justice in New York City.
