About Me
Jigna Zatakia, MD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Mediince. Dr. Zatakia completed herundergraduate at Wayne State University in Detroit Michigan. After graduation she worked on a research project at Children's hospital of Michigan prior to starting Medical school at West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg WV. She completed residency in internal medicine in Greenville North Carolina and worked as a hospitalist prior to starting her fellowship. She completed a fellowship in pulmonary critical care medicine in Richmond Virginia with focus in interstitial lung disease and Sarcoidosis. She accepted a position as Faculty in Houston Texas at Baylor College of Medicine after graduation. During her time at Baylor college of Medicine, she established an interstitial lung disease program that allowed her to provide care to patient with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, sarcoidosis, connective tissue disease associated lung disease. She was also the Director of Pulmonary Function Lab which allowed her to complete quality improvement projects that yielded greater patient satisfaction, efficiency and personnel growth. Additionally, she worked in the hospital at St Luke's Episcopal in Houston as Pulmonary consultant and ICU physician. During her service in the hospital, she had an opportunity to teach and mentor residents, fellows, physician assistants and nurse practitioners. She also led the support group for sarcoidosis in Houston Texas and participated in pulmonary fibrosis support group upon invitation.
Most patients she encounters have advance lung disease with significant comorbidities thus she strives to provide pragmatic, evidence based care that will impact positive change on their quality of life via education, pharmacotherapy and community resources.
Dr. Zatakia is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care Medicine. She is the Director of the Interstitial Lung Disease Program at Mount Sinai Downtown Union Square Clinic work with radiologist, rheumatologist and other consultants to provide comprehensive care. She specializes in the treatment of diffuse interstitial lung diseases, including idiopathic interstitial pneumonia, acute interstitial pneumonia, lymphocytic interstitial pneumonia, non-specific interstitial pneumonia, organizing pneumonia, bronchiolitis obliterans, and hypersensitivity pneumonia. She also specializes in lung diseases associated with rheumatologic disorders, such as rheumatoid arthritis, dermatomyositis, mixed connective tissue disease, and systemic lupus erythematosus. In addition, she also treats drug-induced lung disease, mycobacterial lung disease, Langerhans cell hystiocytosis, lymphangioleimyomatosis, pulmonary vasculitis, alveolar hemorrhage, and pulmonary alveolar proteinosis.
