About Me
Joel Forman, MD, is Professor of Pediatrics, Medical Education, and Environmental Medicine and Climate Science at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and the Mount Sinai Kravis Children's Hospital. He serves as the Vice-Chair of Education, Division Chief, Medical Director, and Fellowship Director of Pediatric Hospital Medicine. Dr. Forman was an original member in the Mount Sinai Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Unit and continues to serve as faculty.
Dr. Forman began his training at the University of Vermont College of Medicine in Burlington, Vermont, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Society and received the New England Pediatric Society Prize. He then served as a Pediatric intern, resident and chief resident at Mount Sinai Hospital where he received the Association of Attending Staff/ Bella Trachtenberg Award for House Staff Excellence.
Subsequently, he joined the general pediatrics faculty at Mount Sinai. Dr. Forman served as Assistant Pediatric Residency Program Director from 1996-2002 and Residency Program Director from 2002 – 2019 and assumed the role of Vice-Chair for Education in 2002. He created the Pediatric Hospital Medicine Fellowship at Mount Sinai and secured ACGME accreditation in this recently formed subspecialty. Dr. Forman helped Dr. Philip J. Landrigan to create the Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Unit (PEHSU) and Pediatric Environmental Medicine fellowship at Mount Sinai. He served for 6 years as a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on Environmental Health and worked as a member of the NYC DOH and CDC Lead in Pregnancy Workgroups to formulate local and national lead in pregnancy guidelines. Dr. Forman served on the EPA Children’s Health Protection Advisory Committee from 2014 - 2019 and has served as a member of the New York City Board of Health since 2010.
