About Me
Johanna ”JJ” Monro, DNP, CNM, RN, is a certified nurse midwife who co-leads The Mount Sinai Hospital’s Delancey Street Midwifery practice. In this role, Ms. Monro provides comprehensive reproductive health care to patients, including general gynecologic, obstetric, postpartum, and menopause care.
Ms. Monro’s interest in reproductive health began in college at Fordham University, where she volunteered as a health educator in the New York City public school system. Following college, she became a volunteer for Mount Sinai’s Sexual Assault and Violence Intervention (SAVI) program, where she advocated for survivors in the emergency room for immediate crisis intervention. Ms. Monro went on to serve as a research coordinator for The Mount Sinai Hospital, where she worked in the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine.
Ms. Monro received her Master of Science in Nursing Midwifery from Columbia University School of Nursing in 2021. She went on to receive her Doctorate in Nursing Practice Midwifery Program in 2023. Ms. Monro previously served Mount Sinai as a Registered Nurse on the Labor and Delivery Unit, where she provided patient-centered care to patients through all stages of birth and collaborated with an interdisciplinary care team to provide timely and need-based care.
Actively involved in research, Ms. Monro’s research interests include providing reproductive health care to individuals with intellectual disabilities and survivors of sexual assault.
Ms. Monro is an active member of the American College of Nurse Midwives and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
