John C Winters, MD

About Me

John Winters, MD, MPH (he/him/his) is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases at The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Dr. Winters initially joined Mount Sinai in 2016 as an adjunct assistant clinical professor after completing fellowship in Infectious Diseases at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School. 

Dr. Winters worked at Mount Sinai since 2016, initially in an adjunct capacity, where he had weekly high resolution anoscopy (HRA) clinics. He is now taking on a larger role in the Anal Cancer Prevention Program where he will continue completing HRA and take on a larger role in education, capacity building and research involving anogenital HPV infection, Anal Cancer and STIs. 

Dr. Winters worked for the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC DOHMH) in the division of sexually transmitted infections and in the NYC Jail Complex at Riker’s Island where he oversaw medical intake of newly incarcerated persons, provided clinical ID consultation and management support during the COVID pandemic. His areas of clinical expertise are in sexual health, HIV and in diagnosing and treating anogenital HPV infections.

Dr. Winters is a member of American Board of Internal Medicine, Infectious Disease Society of America and International Anal Neoplasia Society
