John Hong, MD

John G. Hong, MD, is an Instructor in the Division of Pediatric Hepatology, Department of Pediatrics, and the Recanati/Miller Transplantation Institute at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He completed his undergraduate education at Dartmouth College, earned his medical degree from the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University, completed his Pediatrics residency at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine, and subsequently completed fellowship training in Pediatric Gastroenterology and advanced research training in Pediatric Hepatology at Mount Sinai.

As a physician-scientist, Dr. Hong is committed to advancing the understanding of pediatric liver disease and translating scientific discoveries into better treatments and improved outcomes for children. His research focuses on the molecular mechanisms driving liver fibrosis in pediatric cholestatic liver diseases. Current studies investigate fibrogenic signaling pathways in biliary atresia and pediatric liver transplant recipients, with a particular emphasis on hepatic stellate cell activation, fibroblast heterogeneity, and mechanisms of graft fibrosis. In recognition of his research, Dr. Hong is currently NIH-funded (K08 Career Development Award) and has received several competitive awards, including the NIDDK Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (T32), the Mount Sinai Pediatrics Research Scholar Award, and the Karen Levinson Mindich Trainee Pilot Award.

More importantly, Dr. Hong is dedicated to caring for infants, toddlers, adolescents, and young adults with liver conditions. He strives to provide compassionate, patient-centered care and works closely with patients and their families to develop individualized treatment plans. He is committed to helping families understand their child's condition and supporting them throughout every stage of care. Working alongside a multidisciplinary team, Dr. Hong aims to provide comprehensive, coordinated care tailored to each patient's needs.
