Jonathan Kung, MD
Dr. Jonathan Kung studied Biology & Exercise Biology as an undergraduate at the University of California, Davis. He shares knowing for some time as a young adult that he wanted to become a physician. This pursuit was further solidified in the summer before his final year of college in 2006 when he had the privilege to join a medical mission to Guatemala. Jonathan reports, “I found a pure joy in meeting new people and hearing their stories, helping others, and contributing to the art of healing.”
Jonathan attended medical school at St. George’s University, and then completed Internal Medicine residency at Harbor UCLA Medical Center in 2015. He then completed Gastroenterology fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco-Fresno Medical Education Program in 2018. Finally, he completed an Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy fellowship at Harbor UCLA Medical Center in 2019. Jonathan then completed a year of Gastroenterology in The Permanente Medical Group in the San Francisco Bay Area, before finally moving back to where his heart was – New York City!
Jonathan finsd the specialty of Gastroenterology fascinating as it encompasses the entire body from mouth to colon. The close relationship between gastroenterologic specific organs and all other systems of the body is very unique. He also appreciates the key role of a gastroenterologist in preventing, diagnosing, and treating cancer early.
Jonathan says, “I take pride in creating a comfortable and long-term trusting relationship with all my patients, with the goal to resolve any gastrointestinal disturbances to the best of my abilities while maintaining an environment where patients have full understanding of the diagnosis, thought process of evaluation, and reasons for treatment.”
Finally, Jonathan is a strong believer in treating the mind and body as a whole. He is a strong advocate for good, consistent general health & wellness, exercise, happiness, and peace of mind.
During his free time Jonathan enjoys time as an avid athlete in soccer, basketball, boxing, general fitness, travel, movies, great food, and quality time with his family & friends.
