About Me

J. Antonio Quiros, MD, DHA, is Director of the Pediatric Therapeutic Endoscopy Program and a Clinical Professor in the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology in the Jack and Lucy Clark Department of Pediatrics at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and the Mount Sinai Kravis Children’s Hospital. Dr. Quiros received his medical degree from the UCIMED in Costa Rica and he completed his pediatric residency at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio. He completed his fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and USC Health Science Center followed by an Advanced Fellowship in Gastrointestinal and Biliary Endoscopy at Stanford University Hospital. As part of the collaboration with the Valley Health System, he is also the Associate Chair for Women and Children Services and a member of the Pediatric Gastroenterology team at Valley Medical Group. Prior to joining the Mount Sinai Health System and Valley Health System, Dr. Quiros was a Professor of Pediatrics and Division Chief at the Medical University of South Carolina Children’s Hospital in Charleston where he built a series of nationally recognized programs covering all aspects of pediatric nutrition, foregut disorders, pancreatic disease, transplant care, and interventional procedures.

Dr. Quiros’ area of clinical focus is therapeutic endoscopy. He performs a range of advanced therapeutic procedures including endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), balloon-assisted enteroscopy, complex vascular lesion management and endoscopic resections, among others.

With this minimally invasive procedure available, it allows for a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach to treatment for complex care pediatric patients from infants up to 21 years old. Treatment options are available for digestive disorders, evaluation of recurrent pancreatitis and pancreatic lesions, treatment of intestinal tumors, intestinal bleeding and complex biliary and liver disease. This allows for minimally invasive same-day procedures, permitting speedier recovery and avoidance of surgery in many cases. With the combination of specialized training, extensive pediatric experience, and outstanding access to the technology and resources available as part of a larger health system, it enables Dr. Quiros and his team to perform procedures that are not usually available for children.
