About Me

A native New Yorker, Dr. Lieber completed Internal Medicine Residency at Mount Sinai School of Medicine - Elmhurst Hospital Center and went on to do a Nephrology fellowship at St Luke’s Hospital Center - Columbia University. He returned to Elmhurst in 1989 and has been here ever since. He was appointed Associate Director of Medicine at Elmhurst Hospital in 2002 and then Director of Medicine in 2017. He is an Associate Program Director at the Elmhurst Hospital Internal Medicine Residency Program and the Site Director for the Mount Sinai Internal Medicine Residency Program.

He has been awarded over 30 teaching awards at Mount Sinai and Elmhurst and has been inducted into the Mount Sinai branch of AOA. Dr. Lieber is also the recipient of the Lifetime Teaching Award at Mount Sinai. He lectures throughout the United States and Canada and was appointed as the Grand Marshal for the Mount Sinai Medical School graduation on numerous occasions. Outside of medicine, his passions include classical music, military history (especially World War II through Vietnam), and Cosmology. He was the subject of the 2013 New Yorker article “Every Disease on Earth”.
