About Me
Dr. Leinwand graduated magna cum laude from Brooklyn College and earned his medical degree from Yale University School of Medicine. He completed his general surgery residency at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center, followed by a Master of Science in Engineering, Bioengineering from the University of Pennsylvania. He completed a research fellowship at NYU Langone Medical Center and specialized with a Complex General Surgical Oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
Dr. Leinwand's clinical focus is peritoneal surface malignancies in addition to general surgical oncology. His research focuses on the intrahepatic microbiome's role in cancer development and treatment. His work has enhanced the understanding of gut microbiota's impact on GI cancers and infections, with notable contributions to single-cell transcriptomics and murine microbiome studies. Published in top journals like Nature, Cancer Discovery, and Nature Immunology, his research on liver microbiome interactions and intraperitoneal chemotherapy has been widely cited and influences new therapies for liver diseases and malignancies.
