About Me
Joshua Friedman, MD is Interim Chief of the Division of Neuro-Oncology and Director of Clinical Operations for Neuro-Oncology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Board certified in both Neurology and Neuro-Oncology, Dr. Friedman specializes in the care of patients with primary and metastatic tumors of the brain, spinal cord, meninges, and peripheral nervous system, as well as the neurologic complications of cancer and cancer-directed therapies.
At The Tisch Cancer Institute and Ruttenberg Treatment Center, Dr. Friedman provides comprehensive, patient-centered care for individuals with a broad spectrum of neurologic cancers, including glioma, glioblastoma, central nervous system lymphoma, meningioma, leptomeningeal disease, and brain metastases. He works closely with multidisciplinary teams across neurosurgery, radiation oncology, medical oncology, pathology, and genomics to deliver personalized treatment plans and access to cutting-edge clinical trials.
Dr. Friedman earned his undergraduate degree in Neurobiology from Harvard University before completing medical school at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, where he received the Dr. Morris B. Bender Award in Clinical Neurology. He subsequently completed his internship and residency in Neurology at Mount Sinai, followed by fellowship training in Neuro-Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
Dr. Friedman's research focuses on the development of novel biomarkers and liquid biopsy approaches for patients with brain tumors. He is Founder and Co-Director of the Mount Sinai Cerebrospinal Fluid Bank, one of the largest cerebrospinal fluid biorepositories in the world. Through collaborations with experts in pathology, genomics, and computational biology, he seeks to advance the understanding of the molecular and genomic landscape of primary and metastatic brain tumors and to develop innovative diagnostic and disease-monitoring tools. He also serves as an investigator on multiple clinical trials evaluating emerging therapies for patients with neurologic cancers.
Dr. Friedman sees patients in person and through telemedicine and is committed to providing compassionate, individualized care while advancing the field of neuro-oncology through clinical innovation, research, and education.
