About Me
Dr. Ramirez Gonzalez currently holds the position of Associate Professor at the Department of Pathology, Molecular, and Cell-based Medicine, and Assistant Director of Molecular Microbiology at Mount Sinai Hospital. As the Assistant Director of Molecular Microbiology is responsible for developing new tests for the Mount Sinai Health System.
Dr. Ramirez Gonzalez has also developed various tests for detecting pathogens responsible for causing Chagas disease, Leishmaniasis, Malaria, Acanthamoeba (eye infection), Monkeypox virus, Human Papillomavirus, and Candida auris. Furthermore, he is actively working on developing novel methodologies using nucleic acids to enhance detection and surveillance of several pathogens of interest in the United States.
In addition to his research and service responsibilities, Dr. Ramirez Gonzalez also takes an active role in mentoring two postdoctoral fellows and summer students. His work in developing new tools has led to the publication of approximately 30 articles in peer-reviewed international journals since joining Mount Sinai. He is also actively seeking grants to support his research interests, which include developing molecular diagnostic tools, investigating the genetic diversity of parasites and viruses, and uncovering the interactions between parasites and the microbiota of their hosts.
In brief, it is worth mentioning that Dr. Ramirez Gonzalez has a track record of more than 270 internationally recognized peer-reviewed articles. In addition, he has obtained a plethora of grants from both national and international agencies, diligently guiding and mentoring undergraduate and postgraduate students. Dr. Ramirez Gonzalez has also had the honor of being invited to deliver lectures at esteemed national and international conferences, showcasing his profound knowledge and expertise. He has also taken up the significant responsibility of being an editor in various journals, including the Parasite, Epidemiology and Control, Advanced Biology, Frontiers in Tropical Medicine, Parasites and Vectors, and BMC Infectious Diseases. His scholarly prowess extends beyond that, as he has also served as a judge for other eminent journals.
