Kavita Sharma, MD

Dr. Kavita Sharma is a double board-certified Pain Management physician who specializes in the evaluation and non-surgical treatment of back pain, joint pain, and sports-related injuries.  Dr. Sharma focuses on targeted, evidence-based care for patients seeking effective pain relief and improved function. 

Dr. Sharma’s dual training in Family Medicine at The University of Pennsylvania and Pain Management at Louisiana State University provide her with a unique approach and skill set.  Rather than simply focusing on the affected body part, Dr. Sharma’s focus is on the whole person, and she takes care to listen to each patient’s comprehensive history and functional goals, collaborate with each patient on their treatment plan and provide clear, patient-centered education.  She uses a precision-based, minimally invasive approach, combining advanced image-guided procedures with individualized treatment plans. Her focus is on identifying the source of pain and helping patients improve efficiently while minimizing the need for more invasive interventions.

Dr. Sharma has been practicing in New York City since 2008, with over 15 years of experience in both academic and private practice settings.  She is trained in and has experience with interventional therapies including but not limited to sacroiliac joint injections, interlaminar, transforaminal and caudal epidural steroid injections, intra-articular facet joint injections, peripheral joint injections, medial branch blocks and radiofrequency ablation.

Dr. Sharma is an Assistant Clinical Professor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and has presented at national conferences including the American Pain Society and the North American Neuromodulation Society.  She has been featured in national publications including The Healthy (Reader’s Digest) and Newsweek, commenting on vital topics such as chronic pain management, patient care policy, sleep ergonomics and spinal health.
