Kenan Stern, MD is Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Radiology in the Division of Pediatric Cardiology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and Mount Sinai Kravis Children's Hospital and the Director of Non-Invasive Imaging and Director of Pediatric/Congenital Cardiac MRI at the Mount Sinai Kravis Children's Heart Center. He has clinical expertise in the care of the fetus, child and young adult with heart disease, as well as specialty skills in echocardiography, fetal echocardiography and cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging. He graduated cum laude from Harvard University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in American History. He was awarded his medical degree summa cum laude from SUNY Downstate Medical Center. Dr. Stern completed his residency at the Boston Combined Residency Program in Pediatrics at Boston Children’s Hospital and Boston Medical Center. He went on to complete his pediatric cardiology fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital, where he served as chief fellow, and remained at Boston Children’s Hospital for a senior fellowship in non-invasive imaging. Prior to joining Mount Sinai in 2017, he was the Director of the John H. Gutfreund Fetal Heart Program at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore. Dr. Stern is board certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Cardiology.

Research
Dr. Stern’s research efforts have focused on non-invasive imaging in pediatric and congenital heart disease. In particular, he is interested in optimizing the application of these technologies to patients in order to improve care. This includes, for example, the appropriate selection of testing and judicious use of sedation. He has also studied the development of protocols for imaging procedures. Dr. Stern’s work in quality improvement centers on improved diagnosis, efficiency and resource utilization.
