About Me

Kia Gilani, MD is a neurologist specializing in the treatment of seizure disorders and epilepsy in addition to acute inpatient neurology. He specializes in the medical and surgical management of medically refractory epilepsy, including neuromodulation with VNS and RNS. In addition, his area of clinical focus is on the management of autoimmune-associated epilepsy and immune-mediated causes of seizures.

Dr. Gilani obtained his medical degree from McMaster University followed by neurology residency at the University of Toronto, before coming to New York to complete a clinical neurophysiology/EEG fellowship at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He is certified in neurology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

His research focus is on autoimmune-associated epilepsies, and he holds funding from the American Epilepsy Society to study the factors associated with the transition between acute symptomatic seizures and autoimmune-associated epilepsy. Through his clinical and research work he strives to improve care and outcomes for individuals suffering from epilepsy and immune-mediated seizures.
