Neurology
About Me
Lara V. Marcuse, MD, and Madeline C. Fields, MD, are the co-directors of the Mount Sinai Epilepsy Program. Dr. Marcuse joined the faculty of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in 2009. She is board certified in neurology and neurophysiology. Dr. Marcuse received her BA in mathematics and neurobiology from Cornell University and her medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. In medical school, she received the Daniel Mann Award for her outstanding service to underserved communities. She did her medical internship, neurology residency, and neurophysiology fellowship at the NYU-Langone Medical Center. She served as chief resident for neurology in her final year of residency.
The Mount Sinai Epilepsy Program comprises a multidisciplinary team including neurologists, neurosurgeons, researchers, nurses, neuro-psychologists, technicians, nutritionists, and psychiatrists. The Program has been accredited as a Level 4 Center by National Associations of Epilepsy Centers.
Dr. Marcuse is commited to decreasing the suffering of people with epilepsy--of every age, cognitive ability, socioecoomic background, sexual orientation, or cultural background. For each patient she strives for freedom from seizures and from the debilitating side effects from medication. To achieve this, all possibilities are explored including medication, cannibidiol, complementary therapies, epilepsy diets, and epilepsy surgery. We offer all of the surgical interventions available in this country including vagus nerve stimulation (VNS), responsive neurostimulation (RNS/NeuroPace), deep brain stimulation (DBS), resective surgery, laser interstitial thermal therapy (LITT), and sterotactic EEG (SEEG).
