Lara Marcuse, MD

Lara V. Marcuse, MD, and Madeline C. Fields, MD, are the co-directors of the Mount Sinai Epilepsy Program. Dr. Marcuse joined the faculty of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in 2009. She is board-certified in neurology, epilepsy, and neurophysiology. Dr. Marcuse received her BA in mathematics and neurobiology from Cornell University and her medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. In medical school, she received the Daniel Mann Award for her outstanding service to underserved communities. She completed her medical internship, neurology residency, and neurophysiology fellowship at NYU Langone Medical Center, where she served as chief resident for neurology in her final year.

The Mount Sinai Epilepsy Program comprises a multidisciplinary team, including neurologists, neurosurgeons, researchers, nurses, neuropsychologists, technicians, nutritionists, and psychiatrists. The program has been accredited as a Level 4 Center by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers.

Dr. Marcuse is committed to reducing the suffering of people with epilepsy—regardless of age, cognitive ability, socioeconomic background, sexual orientation, gender identity, or cultural background. She strives to achieve both freedom from seizures and relief from the debilitating side effects of medication for each patient. To accomplish this, all treatment options are explored, including medication, cannabidiol, complementary therapies, epilepsy diets, and epilepsy surgery.

• Laser interstitial thermal therapy (LITT)
• Stereotactic EEG (SEEG)
