About Me

Dr. Lauren Lepow is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai where she conducts research at the Center for Psychedelic Therapy Research. She is a psychiatrist with clinical and research interests in psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy and the treatment of trauma. She completed her BA in Neuroscience & Behavior at Columbia University and her MD at the McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston with a concentration in neuroscience. In medical school she was inducted to the Gold Humanism Honor Society.

Dr. Lepow then completed her psychiatry residency at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in a combined research track where she is also completed a PhD in neuroscience. As a Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation Fellow, she participated as an investigator and study therapist on trials of MDMA- and psilocybin-assisted therapy for post-traumatic stress disorder.

With the goal of improving a mechanistic understanding of psychedelic treatments, Dr. Lepow leverages artificial intelligence with audio and video data to bring neuroscience research closer to the human experience of healing. She was awarded the National Institute of Health T32 Institutional Training grant to help launch her research career.

In clinical practice, Dr. Lepow is known for her warm relational approach to psychotherapy. She draws from her theoretical background in psychoanalysis and is a student of Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy.
