Lauren Cottrell, MD

About Me

Dr. Cottrell graduated from residency training at Mount Sinai Morningside and West in 2020 and completed a fellowship in Public Psychiatry at Columbia University/New York State Psychiatric Institute in 2021.She has worked in a variety of outpatient settings, including the Center for Urban and Community Service’s Assertive Community Treatment team and Columbia University Irving Medical Center's Adult Outpatient Psychiatry Clinic. She has special interest in the treatment of serious mental illness, systems-based practices, trauma informed and recovery-oriented care. She completed comprehensive Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) training in 2022 and focuses on providing DBT, Motivational Interviewing, and Supportive Psychotherapy. Her approach to psychiatry is humanistic, evidence-based and clinically grounded. She received the Philip J. Krick Residents award for Humanism in Psychiatry 2020. She serves as the Associate Program Director for Psychiatry Residency Training at Mount Sinai Morningside and West and is dedicated to training the next generation of psychiatrists to approach their work with hope, curiosity, and compassion.
