Leah Ilyse Kaplan, MD
Endocrine, Diabetes and Bone Diseases (Endocrinology)
About Me
Dr. Leah Kaplan began practicing as an Endocrinologist in 2024 and joined Mount Sinai Queens in the same year. After completing her undergraduate studies at Northeastern University, Dr. Kaplan earned her medical degree from Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. She then completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Tufts Medical Center before moving to The Mount Sinai Hospital for her fellowship in Endocrinology. Dr. Kaplan is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and board eligible in Endocrinology. In her professional community, Dr. Kaplan is a member of The Endocrine Society.
Dr. Kaplan has a special clinical interest in diabetes quality improvement. During her endocrinology fellowship at Mount Sinai, Dr. Kaplan's research focused on utilizing continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) to help bridge gaps in diabetes care. This research included studying CGM in women with gestational diabetes to improve detection of postpartum dysglycemia and in post-hospitalized patients who had inpatient dysglycemia to decrease hospital readmission rates. Through this research, Dr. Kaplan developed a strong interest in hospital discharge/readmission of patients with diabetes and diabetes care quality improvement.
When discussing her role in healthcare, Dr. Kaplan explains, "Healthcare can be overwhelming to navigate and I work to create an environment of mutual respect and shared decision making with each patient. I believe in developing individualized treatment plans that recognize one’s unique circumstances in order to optimize quality of care." Outside of her time with patients, Dr. Kaplan enjoys cooking, exercising, and is an avid fan of the New York Knicks.
