About Me

Dr. Galatz is the Mount Sinai Professor and Chair of the Leni and Peter May Department of Orthopedic Surgery and the Icahn School of Medicine at the Mount Sinai Health System in New York. She specializes in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, with expertise in Sports and Reconstructive procedures including instability, rotator cuff disorders, and joint replacement.  She works with a multidisciplinary team to address patient needs encompassing operative and nonoperative management. Her primary research interest throughout her career has been basic science of rotator cuff disease and tendon healing as it pertains to cuff repair. She is a Co-Primary Investigator on two major projects funded by the National Institute of Health which focus on rotator cuff degeneration and repair, and tissue engineering strategies for tendon repair.  Her research is complemented with clinical projects with her colleagues on Shoulder and Elbow problems.  Dr. Galatz lectures in numerous courses on a national and international level each year, lecturing on a variety of clinical topics pertaining to Shoulder and Elbow pathology.  


Dr. Galatz received the 2021 Women’s Leadership Forum Award from the Orthopedic Research Society.  Dr. Galatz is listed in New York Magazine Top Doctors 2018-2020, Castle Connolly America’s Top Doctors 2018-2021, and Top Doctors New York Metro Area 2016-2021.  She was awarded one of the Exceptional Women in Medicine 2019-2020.  In 2019, she received the Notable Women in Healthcare Award by Crain’s New York Business.  She was the recipient of the Neer award for Basic Science Research at the American Shoulderand Elbow Surgeons Open Meeting in 2009.  Dr. Galatz received the 2014 Kappa Delta Ann Doner Award along with her colleagues for research on the natural history of rotator cuff disease. In 2007, she was a European Shoulder and Elbow Traveling Fellow, sponsored by American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons and was an American British Canadian Traveling Fellow in 2009.
Dr. Galatz serves on the Executive Committee of the Mount Sinai Faculty Practice.  She is Chair of the Contracts Committee of the Faculty Practice, and is on the Board the Mount Sinai IPA.
