About Me
Lionel S. D’Souza, MD is an Associate Professor of Medicine and serves as the Program Director of the Advanced Endoscopy Fellowship in the Dr. Henry D. Janowitz Division of Gastroenterology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He also serves as the Director of Endoscopy at Mount Sinai Hospital.
Dr. D’Souza is an interventional gastroenterologist who specializes in diseases of the pancreas and bile ducts as well as the management of various pre-cancerous and cancerous lesions of the gastrointestinal tract. He is an expert in advanced diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures including endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), endoluminal stent placement, advanced ablative treatments such as radiofrequency ablation (RFA) and cryotherapy, endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR), endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD), per-oral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) and endoscopic suturing.
As a member of medical faculty at the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University previously, and now at Mount Sinai, Dr. D’Souza has dedicated his career to the development and advancement of endoluminal surgical techniques such as ESD and POEM as well as cutting-edge therapeutic EUS techniques to provide patients with various cancers, and pre-cancerous lesions, of the GI tract and other chronic conditions such as achalasia, effective minimally invasive treatment options tailored to the individual patient. He is a recognized expert in these fields locally and nationally, giving invited lectures, teaching/training at national courses and continues to be involved in ongoing research.
