Dr. Cohen graduated from City University of New York with a PhD in Clinical Pyschiatry. She completed her predoctoral internship at St. Luke's Medical Center. Currently, she is Professor of Psychiatry at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and has served as supervising psychologist at Mount Sinai Beth Israel since 1996. Dr. Cohen has served in multiple positions at Beth Israel during her tenure, including Coordinator of Inpatient Externship, Coordinator of Continuing Education, and Director of Research for Psychology and Psychiatry. Dr. Cohen divides her time between teaching, clinical work and scientific research

Dr. Cohen has conducted research in the field of clinical psychology for over 25 years. Her primary interest is in the relationship between childhood trauma and personality pathology in adults but she has published on multiple additional topics, including bipolar disorder, suicide, methadone treatment, obsessive compulsive disorder, trichotillomania, pedophilia, schizophrenia, using psychometric, neuropsychological and brain imaging methodology.
