Dr. Maia Kayal is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Gastroenterology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and The Susan and Leonard Feinstein Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Center. She specializes in the care of patients with gastrointestinal illnesses with a focus on ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. She graduated from New York University School of Medicine with the highest honors and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha national medical honor society. She completed her internal medicine residency at Columbia University Medical Center-New York Presbyterian Hospital and fellowship training in gastroenterology at the Mount Sinai Hospital, where she served as chief gastroenterology fellow. Dr. Kayal's research in inflammatory conditions of the ileal pouch in ulcerative colitis patients has been published in peer-reviewed journals and presented nationally. Dr. Kayal's current research interests include prediction and risk stratification in ulcerative colitis patients who need surgery.
