About Me
Dr. Maria Skamagas completed her residency training in Internal Medicine and fellowship training in Endocrinology at the Mount Sinai Hospital. She was Chief Fellow during her Endocrinology training. Dr. Skamagas is currently an Assistant Professor in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Bone Disease. Her clinical interests include type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus, female hormone disorders (irregular menses, polycystic ovary syndrome, menopause), adrenal insufficiency, adrenal tumors, pituitary tumors, and bone disease.
Dr. Skamagas has expertise in managing complex patients with diabetes and endocrine disorders. Dr. Skamagas is an astute clinician who uses her understanding of endocrine pathophysiology to individualize medical therapy and dietary advice to each patient. She is actively involved in teaching medical students, housestaff, and physicians. She is also certified in clinical densitometry (bone density studies) in the evaluation of osteoporosis.
