About Me

Matthew C. Mori, MD, is a board-certified, fellowship-trained surgeon at the Grabscheid Voice and Swallowing Center of Mount Sinai and an Assistant Professor in the Mount Sinai Department of Otolaryngology. He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of airway, voice, and swallowing disorders while treating the full gamut of ear, nose, and throat diseases.

He received his medical degree from Stanford University School of Medicine and completed his residency in the Harvard Combined Program in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. During residency, Dr. Mori served as the chief resident at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital, and Boston Children’s Hospital. Subsequently he completed a fellowship in Laryngology and Care of the Professional Voice at the Vanderbilt Voice Center in Nashville, Tennessee training with preeminent leaders in the field. In “Music City” he treated and cared for numerous accomplished singers, actors, and other voice professionals.

In addition to his medical training, Dr. Mori worked extensively as a professional singer. He performed as a soloist in musical theatre and opera and sang in the San Francisco Symphony Chorus and Vancouver Opera Chorus. Prior to medical school, he also worked in the University of California of San Francisco Department of Neurosurgery investigating treatment of movement disorders with deep brain stimulation.

In his practice at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai, Dr. Mori takes a team-oriented, patient-first approach to patient care. He uses the latest technology to evaluate and treat laryngology disorders, including high-definition video stroboscopy. His clinical interests include the care of the professional voice; treatment of vocal fold paralysis; diagnosis and Botox treatment of spasmodic dysphonia and other movement disorders; office-based and operative laser procedures; phonomicrosurgery; endoscopic and open treatment of Zenker's diverticulum, treatment of laryngeal recurrent respiratory papilloma; evaluation and treatment of airway stenosis including subglottic stenosis and tracheal stenosis; and treatment of laryngeal cancer.
