About Me
Dr. Maura Cosetti is the Director of the Ear Institute of New York Eye and Ear Infirmary (NYEE) of Mount Sinai and the Cochlear Implant Program at the Mount Sinai Health System in New York. A leading otologist-neurotologist, she is board certified in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery with additional board certification in Otology-Neurotology. Dr. Cosetti also completed accredited fellowship training in Neurotology/Skull Base Surgery at New York University.
Dr. Cosetti’s clinical expertise spans the full gamut of all pediatric and adult hearing disorders with an emphasis on complex cases. This includes cochlear implantation, cholesteatoma, acoustic neuroma, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak, chronic ear disease and infections, aural atresia, Neurofibromatosis Type II, lateral skull base surgery, endoscopic ear surgery and vestibular and balance disorders.
Dr. Cosetti directs the Ear Institute of NYEE at Mount Sinai, one of the premiere multi-disciplinary centers for hearing and balance in New York City and in the nation, providing cutting-edge diagnostic and treatment options for individuals of any age with the range of hearing and balance disorders.
The Ear Institute is home to one of the highest volume Cochlear Implant Programs in the world. Dr. Cosetti and her team’s clinical expertise in pediatric and adult cochlear implantation is recognized nationally and internationally for their experience in all types, devices, and indications for cochlear implantation. With more than 10 years of experience, Dr. Cosetti is a celebrated pioneer in cochlear implantation technology and research. She has helped countless patients and their families regain the ability to communicate clearly and revitalize their quality of life.
In addition to cochlear implantation, Dr. Cosetti’s groundbreaking research focuses on outcomes and the use of virtual reality to understand how hearing loss affects posture, falls and balance. She receives funding from the NIH, Hearing Health Foundation (HHF) and other leading organizations to forge breakthroughs in the otology-neurotology field.
Dr. Cosetti helms the Otology-Neurotology Fellowship Program at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She Co-chairs the William House Cochlear Implant Study Group, a leading authority on issues related to cochlear implantation and leads the Otology Neurotology Education Committee for the American Academy of Head and Neck Surgery, as well as directs hearing and balance educational content for all 12,000 otolaryngology providers nationwide. Additionally she has authored more than 75 articles and textbook chapters and has presented at various national and international specialty meetings.
She treats patients at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary and The Mount Sinai Hospital Faculty Practice in Manhattan.
