About Me
Dr. Maya Barghash attended New York University where she received her undergraduate degree in chemistry and psychology and her medical degree from New York University School of Medicine. Dr. Barghash completed her Internal Medicine Residency at Mount Sinai Hospital, after which she served as Chief Medical Resident. She completed her Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship at New York University School of Medicine and her Advanced Heart Disease and Cardiac Transplantation Fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA. Dr. Barghash returned to Mount Sinai Hospital and joined the faculty as Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine and is part of the faculty in the Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology group within the Cardiovascular Institute.
Dr. Barghash’s clinical interests encompass all aspects of the diagnosis and management of heart failure and cardiomyopathy, including the diagnosis and management of special forms of cardiomyopathy, such as cardiac amyloidosis, sarcoidosis, genetic cardiomyopathy, pericardial disease, valvular heart disease, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, peripartum cardiomyopathy, myocarditis, and cardiomyopathy related to cancer treatment. She is involved in the selection and care of patients with heart failure who are in need of or have received advanced heart failure therapeutics, including invasive hemodynamic monitoring, mechanical circulatory support and cardiac transplantation. She believes in tailoring her treatment approach to the individual patient and practices evidence-based medicine.
In addition to caring for patients with heart failure, she is passionate about teaching with previous awards received for her dedication to teaching medical house staff. Her research interests have focused on the clinical assessment of heart failure and transitions of care in heart failure management.
